Ingredients need to make the Portuguese custard tart recipe (Pastis de Nata)

For Pastry Cream:

  • 500 ml of milk
  • 7 egg yolks
  • 90 grams of castor sugar
  • 75 grams cornflour
  • 75 g butter
  • 5 ml vanilla essence

For the puff pastry:

  • 500 grams flour
  • 500 g butter
  • 5 grams salt

Method of making Portuguese custard tart recipe (Pastis de Nata)

  1. Boil milk and add the castor sugar. Put the egg yolk and cornflour in a bowl, add it to the boiling milk and mix well.
  2. Add butter and vanilla essence.

For the puff pastry:

  1. Mix 250 ml cold water and knead the flour and salt together.
  2. Grease the dough with butter and keep it to set.
  3. Knead the dough to make the tart.
  4. Bake the tart till it is completely cooked.
