Ingredients need to make gujrati poha

  • 1½ cups thick poha
  • 1 chopped potato
  • 1 finely chopped onion
  • 2 teaspoons oil
  • ½ teaspoon mustard
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric
  • 2 finely chopped green chilies
  • 5-6 curry leaves
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Peanuts According to taste
  • Some of the grains
  • Coriander leaves
  • 1 lemon, and salt.

Method of making Gujarati Poha

  1. First of all, take the poha in a sieve and wash it well in running water for 2-3 minutes.
  2. Do not mash the poha with hands and keep it to dry a little.
  3. After 5 minutes, add a little turmeric, sugar, salt and squeeze half a lemon.
  4. Then mix them all with light hands and keep the oil on the pan to heat.
  5. When the oil is hot, fry the peanuts and keep them aside.
  6. Now add mustard seeds to the oil and then add curry leaves and green chilies.
  7. After a few seconds add the potatoes and after 2-3 minutes, add the onion.
  8. After 3-4 minutes add light salt, and then mix everything well and let it be for 5 minutes.
  9. Then add the fried peanuts and pohe to it and mix it well.
  10. Cover the pan and let the poha cook.
  11. After 5 minutes, see if the potatoes are cooked well, if not then let them cook.
  12. After some time Gujarati Poha will be ready, you can serve it by adding coriander leaves, pomegranate seeds, and namkeen sev.

Some important tips for making good Gujarati Poha –

  1. To make Gujarati Poha, always use thick or medium size Poha.
  2. Use a balanced amount of oil to make poha, more or less oil may spoil the taste.
  3. Do not deep fry the onion.
  4. Do not overdo turmeric.
  5. Serve the poha immediately after it is ready, the poha made over time starts losing taste.
  6. To make it tastier, you can use Poha masala available in the market.
